In 1973, Robertshaw Controls Company of Richmond Virginia decided to distribute their product line thru an organization of independent field offices. This would be in addition to their existing factory branch organizations. Melvin Volz and his son, M. Thomas Volz created Melco Industries, Inc. at that time. In 1975, Melvin Volz sold his interest to M. Thomas Volz. The business location was at 3027 Preston Highway. At this time, the company consisted of Tom, an office assistant and one full time field employee. As work was acquired, it was executed by hiring thru Local 502 (pipe fitters union). As advances in technology occurred, the industry moved from compressed air systems (pneumatic) to electronic systems. As these changes continued, the work shifted from pipe fitting to electrical. In 1979 John Pugh, owner of Pugh Electric Inc. developed a sub-contracting relationship with Tom Volz and his company. Pugh Electric Inc. was an electrical contracting company with two employees. This relationship continued until 1984. At that time the two companies merged with John Pugh and Tom Volz as co-owners while retaining the Melco Industries, Inc. name. The next twenty years were marked by a series of mergers and acquisitions. In 1986 Siebe Environmental bought Robertshaw Controls Company and in 1987 acquired The Barber-Coleman Company of Rockford, Illinois. This new company then merged with BTR of London in February of 1999 to form Invensys Building Systems. In 2003 Invensys decided to divest from the contracting business and in early 2004, Melco acquired the Louisville Invensys Branch operation. Schneider Electric acquired Invensys in 2007 and began marketing under the TAC Americas brand name. Throughout all the mergers and acquisitions, TAC Americas has remained committed to concept of “Backward Compatible”.... “Future Adaptable”. Our staff is factory trained and certified to apply, install and service TAC Americas products and services. As the TAC Americas licensed field office representative, we receive full factory support from the entire TAC Americas manufacturing, technical, marketing and service teams. Although specializing in building controls and automation systems, Melco is a fully licensed Electrical and HVAC Contractor. Our staff includes Association of Energy Engineers Certified Energy Managers and Certified Building Commissioning Professionals. We are also a Kentucky Society of Healthcare Engineers Certified Healthcare Contractor.
